Theresa R. Gander, age 87, of Lansing, Iowa, died Monday morning, July 12, 2004, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 15, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lansing with Fr. Daniel Knipper officiating. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery, Lansing. Friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Thornburg Hanson Funeral Home in Lansing where there will be a Parish Scripture Service at 8 p.m. Theresa was born in New Albin, Iowa, November 18, 1916, to Christopher and Theresa (Thimmesch) Freilinger. She married Leonard Gander February 14, 1939, at St. Joseph's Church, New Albin. She helped her husband farm and for many years did catering. She also worked as a waitress at the L&W Cafe. Theresa loved growing strawberries, quilting, and watching baseball on television. Her favorite team was the Cubs. Survivors include one daughter, Catherine Batteen of Lansing; one granddaughter, Phyllis Burke of Oelwein; one step-grandson, Tom (Lisa) Batteen of Box Elder, S.D.; six great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard in 1989; three great-grandchildren, Jermiah, Jackson, and Jamison Burke; two step-grandchildren, William Batteen and Angela Simmer, as well as all seven of her siblings. Casketbearers are Joshua Burke, Sarah Burke, Jesse Burke, Jordan Burke, Samantha Burke, and Judd Burke.
