Aloris M. Curtis, age 73, of Dubuque, Iowa, died Friday, July 9, 2004, at Finley Hospital in Dubuque. Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 13 at Mueller Memorial Chapel, Linwood Cemetery. Burial was in Linwood Cemetery, Dubuque. Siegert-Casper Colonial Funeral Home, Dubuque, was in charge of arrangements. Aloris was born October 14, 1930, in Waukon, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Martha (Thies) Beardmore. She moved to Dubuque in 1949 and enrolled in the Finley Hospital School of Nursing program. While attending school, she met Donald Curtis and the two were married October 12, 1952, in New Albin, Iowa. After graduation, Aloris worked as a registered nurse at Finley Hospital for 13 years. She then was employed by Dubuque Internal Medicine for the next 25 years, retiring in 1990. Aloris enjoyed gardening, reading, embroiding, and knitting. She was a member of the Finley Hospital Nurses Alumni Association. Survivors include two sons, Jeffrey (Mary) Curtis of Maquoketa, Iowa, and Randall Curtis of Cary, N.C.; four grandchildren, Laura, Robert, Douglas, and Erica Curtis; two great-grandchildren, Allison and Adam Curtis; and her brother, Curtis Beardmore of New Albin. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Donald on February 10, 1994. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Aloris M. Curtis memorial fund.
