Funeral services for Lucille Berns were Wednesday, March 5, 1986, at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Postville, Iowa. She died March 3, 1986 at her home. The Mass was celebrated by the Rev. Paul Otting and co-celebrated by the Rev. Cletus Hawes and the Rev. Joe O'Hara. The organist was Linda Bacon. The gift bearers were the grandchildren, Kari Berns and Kevin and David Heisler. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in St.Patrick's Cemetery, Monona, Iowa.

Lucille Margaret Berns, daughter of Jacob and Margaret (Thul) Koerperick, was born July 9, 1917 at Bankston, Iowa. Lucille received her education in the Bankston School and was a graduate of the Mercy School of Nursing at Dubuque, Iowa. She was employed by the Hospital in Postville and was the Director of Nursing at the Good Samaritan Center in Postville, Iowa and later worked at the Waukon, Iowa Hospital.

On January 17, 1939 she was married to Leo Berns at St.Patrick's Church in Monona. They began their married life by farming on the Wilke farm north of Postville. In 1956 they moved to their present farm north of Postville. They are the parents of 4 sons and three daughters.

She is preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, Edwin and Sylvester, and a sister, Veronica Manning.

Surviving are her husband, Leo, 4 sons Robert and his wife Kay of Orem, Utah, Gene and his wife Nancy, Richard and his wife Cindy, and Charles, all of Postville; 3 daughters, Roberta "Bobbi" and her husband Robert Smrcina of Dubuque, Ann and her husband Robert Heisler of Farley, Iowa, and Mary Lynn and her husband Gerald Gramlich of Waukon, 13 grandchildren, a brother, Raymond Koerperick, Sr. of East Dubuque, Il and a sister, Mildred Betts of Farley.

She was a member of St. Bridget Catholic Church and the Rosary Society, holding offices in this and other organizations such as the Post Franklin Study Club and the Upper Iowa Saddle Club. She was a member of the Mercy School of Nursing Alumni Association.
