_______

Carl Friederich Henry Radloff was born in Blesewitz, Germany, June 26, 1866, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Radloff. Shortly after birth he was baptized and later became a communicant member of the Lutheran church of his native land by rite of confirmation.

He came to this country at the age of seven years.

On January 31, 1889, he was united in marriage with Miss Minna Schmidt. They first settled on a farm near Elkader, where they lived for two years. They then purchased the Overbeck farm, south of Luana, where they resided for twenty-four years, and in the spring of 1915 they moved to Postville, which has since been their home.

Their union was blessed with four children—William, who lives on the old home place near Luana; Henry southeast of Postville; Mrs. John A. Lenth of Monona and Mrs. Harvey Hamann of St. Olaf.

In the spring of 1936 Mr. Radloff’s health began to fail, and after treatment at the Iowa city hospital he was on October 25th of this year taken to a hospital in Dubuque, where he passed on at 12:55 p. m. on Saturday, November 6, 1937, at the age of 71 years, four months and 11 days, pneumonia being the immediate cause of his passing.

Besides the children above mentioned he is survived by his wife, two brothers, William, of Farmersburg and Louis, of Clayton Center, and one sister, Mrs. Henry Harnack of Waterloo; also by nine grandchildren. A sister, Mrs. Fred Miller of St. Olaf, preceded him in death about five months ago.

The above is in brief the life story of a man known to all as an honest an upright man, a good citizen, neighbor and friend, and all who knew this genial gentleman with [sic] sympathize sincerely with those bound to him by closer ties.

The funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon, from the home at 1:45 p. m. and at St. Paul’s Lutheran church, of which deceased was a communicant member, at two o’clock, Rev. Meyer of Clayton Center officiating. Interment was made in the Postville cemetery.
