Funeral Services Held For Former Resident

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Community Presbyterian Church here for C. B. Davenport, 67, of Nokomis, Illinois, a former resident of this community. The rites were in charge of Rev. W. W. Ebert, pastor of the E. U. B. Church in Monona. Burial was in the Postville cemetery.

Chester B. Davenport was born the son of Robert and Malissa Jameson Davenport, October 3, 1887 at Roseville, Illinois.

On October 4, 1910, he was married to Amy Swenson at Postville. To this union four children were born, one son, Robert, preceding his father in death on October 17, 1948. Mrs. Davenport passed away on April 22, 1952.

Mr. Davenport was for many years engaged in the business of banking, having been employed for a number of years in the bank at Luana, and later moving to Woden, Illinois where he was engaged in the same business until his retirement due to poor health.

He then made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Marie Bednar of Nokomis, Illinois, where he passed away on Thursday, July 29, 1954 following a heart attack.

Mr. Davenport was a member of the Masonic Lodge at Mt. Hope, Wisconsin.

He leaves to mourn his passing the following children: Mrs. Margaret Vinyard, Bakersfield, California; Capt. Donald Davenport, Hill Air Force Base, Ogden, Utah; Mrs. Marie Bednar, Nokomis, Illinois; one half brother, Jess Davenport of Macomb, Illinois, and his step parents, Mrs. and Mrs. R. B. Jordan of Roseville, Illinois. Eight grandchildren also survive.

Former Banker Buried Monday
Woden: C.B. Davenport, former manager of First State Bank at Woden, died at the home of his daughter, at Nakomis, Ill., July 29, at the age of 66 years. He had been in failing health the past two years. Surviving are two daughters and a son. His wife preceded him in death several years ago while living in Woden. One son also preceded him in death. Funeral services were held at the Community Presbyterian church at Postville, Iowa, on Monday, August 2. Burial was in the Postville cemetery. Friends from Woden attending funeral rites at Postville on Monday were Mrs. Robert Ellefson, Mrs. Martin Christensen, Mrs. Tena Hulme, Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Helm, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Smith and Mrs. W.L. Tindall. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Hunt, of Luverne, also attended the services.
