Funeral Services for Mrs. J. O. Davis

Funeral services were held on Thursday at the Community Presbyterian Church for Mrs. John O. Davis, 72, with Rev. Walter T. Martin officiating. Burial was at Grand Meadow. Mrs. Davis passed away at Postville Hospital Monday, January 16, following an extended illness.

Florence M. Simpson daughter of William and Sarah Simpson was born April 18, 1877, in Post township, and died at the Postville Hospital on Monday, January 16, 1950 at the age of 72 years.

She received her education in the South Grove and Postville schools. On January 17, 1892 she was married to John O. Davis. They made their home on the farm now occupied by Harry Davis, their son. To this union four children were born, Ralph, Hazel, Myrtle and Harry.

Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Bert, her husband, John O. Davis, who died in June 1931, a son Ralph, who passed away in 1937, a daughter Myrtle, who died in 1947, a half sister Mrs. Emma Webster and a half brother Melbert Simpson.

In 1932 Mrs. David moved to Postville where she resided until she had the misfortune of breaking her hip on May 12, 1947. She was cared for at the home of her son Harry Davis for two years, after which she moved back to her town residence living there ten weeks.

She leaves to mourn her death a son Harry, her daughter Hazel (Mrs. Laurence Hill) of Los Angeles, three grandsons and three granddaughters.

In her youth she became a member of the Bethel Church and on July 10, 1927 she united with the Community Presbyterian Church.
