John R. Wiedner, 60, of Coralville, Iowa, died Friday, May 30, 1997 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a short illness.
He was born Aug. 29, 1936 in LaCrosse to Melvin and Irene (Cassidy) Wiedner. He grew up in the Harpers Ferry area and graduated from Harpers Ferry High School in 1954. He attended St. Thomas College and served for a time in the U.S. Army. He later attended Upper Iowa University.
John was married to Julia A. McGowan on June 17, 1967 in Lawler, Iowa. The couple made their home in Coralville. He worked for a number of years at Wilson Foods in Cedar Rapids and most recently was employed by Release International in Iowa City. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Iowa City and the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Katie Wiedner of Omaha, Neb.; a sister, Judith Indihar of Dubuque; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Karin.
The Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, June 2 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. Kenneth Kuntz officiating. Burial was held Monday afternoon at St. Joseph Cemetery in Harpers Ferry. Donohue-Lensing Funeral Service of Iowa City took care of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.
