Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 12 for Gladys Joann Ryan, 74. of Waukon, who died Sunday, April 9 at Veterans Memorial Hospital. The 11 a.m. services were held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Father Ed Lechtenberg officiating. Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery with Martin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
A lifetime area resident, she was born April 22, 1914 in rural Dorchester to Lyman and Mary Lyons Woolstrum. She attended Bear Creek School near Dorchester and graduated from high school in Dubuque. July 16, 1933, she married Forrest Ryan of Canton, MN in Dorchester. She was a member of St. Patrick's church and was a homemaker and worked for several years as a foreman at Northern Engraving in Waukon. She enjoyed flower gardening and televised sports.
Surviving are her husband, four sons, James and Michael of Waukon, Patrick of Highlandville and Ricardo of Oakland, CA; five daughters, Mrs. Dave (Shirley) Heilig of Almeda, CA, Sharon Ryan of Hiawatha, Darlene Drew of Rochester, MN, Mrs. David (Katherine) Hogendorn of Waukon, and Mrs. Steven (Wanda) Dalsing of Dubuque; 26 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Emmett (Leona) Mahoney of Dubuque.
Preceding her in death were two sons, John and Joseph, two daughters, Mary Ellen and Elizabeth; a sister, Lorette Schwartzhoff and a brother, Leo Woolstrum. Casket bearers were David Heilig, David Hogendorn, Dr. Steven Dalsing, Bill Wright, Ed O'Neill and James Walsh.
