Funeral Services Held For John F. Bechtel

John Bechtel, 79, passed away at a Milwaukee, Wis., hospital Friday morning following about a ten days illness with double pneumonia. He has made his home in that city with his youngest son Vernon and family for the past 18 months.
He was born June 27th 1876 at Lansing a son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bechtel and this town or vicinity had always been his home. He attended the city schools and in early life farmed for many years, later clamming during that era and was last employed in the factories before failing health made him retire. His illness became more severe and for several months he was a patient at the Veterans Hospital in Waukon before going to Milwaukee to make his home. Besides Vernon he is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ernest Buller of Oakland, Calif., who came for the funeral and another son Walter of Lansing and vicinity. His parents and a sister preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held from the Burke Funeral Home to the German Presbyterian Church Monday afternoon at two o'clock with the pastor Rev. Albert Kinzler officiating. Vocal solos, "In the Garden" and "Sweet Peace" were sung by the misses Ada Bauman and Lorna Cavers with Mrs. Theodore Schott accompanying. Casket bearers were Will Gruver, Elgin; Norbert Strong, Thomas Olloff, Donald and Leslie Steiber and Melvin Hill of Lansing and vicinity. Burial was made in Oak Hill Cemetery.
