Mrs. John Bechtel, Waukon Nonagenarian, Dies Friday

Mrs. John Bechtel died last Friday at the home of her son, William Bechtel, east of Waukon. The cause of death was infirmities due to old age. The deceased's maiden name was Magdalena Friedricke Steiger and she was born in Wurtenburg, Germany, March 4, 1844.
She came to this country and county in 1867 March 19 of that year she was married to John Bechtel and they made their home on Lansing Ridge. Her husband preceded her in death and since 1910 she has made her home with her son William, east of Waukon. She is survived by two sons, Fred Bechtel of Winneshiek county and Wm. Bechtel of this county. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday at the home, Rev. Stucki of Zion Reformed church officiating, and at 2 o'clock at the Evangelical church at Churchtown, Rev. Hoffman officiating, with burial in the Lansing Ridge Cemetery.
