Mrs. Frederick Steger

It is with regret that we are called upon to note the passing of another Lansing pioneer mother, Mrs. Frederick Steger, whose death took place Friday morning at the family residence, here after an illness of several years with diabetes, although Mrs. Steger was only confined to her home since New Years.

Julianna Thoma was born August 24, 1852, in Roth, Baden, Germany, and came to America and Allamakee county in 1871, where she has resided ever since. On May 28, 1874, she was united in marriage at the Catholic Church in Lansing by Fr. Jacoby, Mr. Steger preceding her in death Dec. 18, 1929. After their marriage they made their home at Village Creek for a while, then on the farm now occupied by John Ferring in Center township, moving to Lansing twenty-nine years ago.

To this union eleven children were born, three dying in infancy. Surviving are the following sons and daughters: Robert and Miss Jacobina Steger, Lansing; Mrs. Julius Fuerhelm, Hokah, Minn.; Theodore of Rochester; Herman, Minneapolis; Miss Josephine, Chicago; Miss Anne of Rhinelander, Wis.; and Miss Martha, Wausau, Wis. She is also survived by two sisters, Miss Mary Thoma of Lansing, Sister M. Constantia of La Crosse, Wis.

Mrs. Steger was a good Christian woman, a devout Catholic and died fortified by the last rites of the church she loved so well. Her life was devoted to her family who in the loss of a fond and loving mother have the sympathy of all.

Funeral services took place at Immaculate Conception church at 9 o'clock Monday morning, Msgr. B.L. Haxmeier, her pastor over half a century, singing the mass of requiem and also offering the prayers at the graveside in Gethsemane cemetery, where interment was made beside her loved ones gone before. The casket bearers were : Edw. Weber, Henry Burke, John Howard, Joe Knopf, Matt Ferring and Peter Zabolitzky.

May the soul of this good woman rest in peace.
