Funeral services for Arlene Joyce Cahoon, 20, were held last Saturday afternoon at 1:20 o'clock from the home to the Schultz Funeral Home at 2 o'clock with the Rev. H.W. Raduege in charge. Burial was in the City Cemetery (Monona, Iowa)

Miss Cahoon died Wednesday evening, June 7, 1944. Almost all of her life she was in ill health but in spite of all handicaps she completed eight years of education in the rural school and was graduated from the Monona High School in 1943.

She was born Januaryy 28, 1924, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elbert A. Cahoon in Linton township, Allamakee County. Her entire life was spent on the farm. She was very interested in the cultural aspects of life and sought to express herself through these. She took piano lessons until ill health forced her to stop and she liked to draw and sketch. During the last winter she was engaged in writing various stories and poems.

Through all of her years of ill health and suffering she was very patient and uncomplaining and even during the last four weeks of her life when she was seriously ill of a heart infection she still maintained a patient and trusting attitude. Her desire was ever to help others whenever she could and to be thoughtful of all people.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by one sister, Burgette; two brothers, Wilbur and Eugene; an aunt Girdy Van Cura, and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Van Cura.

Miss Mabel Mae Reidel and David Schlitter sang "Sweet Hour of Prayer", and "In the Sweet Bye and Bye". at the service. Mrs. Raduege accompanied the singers. Pallbearers were: Albert Topel, Carlton Schlitter, William Seglar, Burton Schlein, Frank Timmerman, and Lawrence Moses.
