Alice Mathilda Marti

Alice Mathilda Marti, 89, of Waukon, died Sunday, March 11, 2001, at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 15, at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church in rural Waukon with Pastor Ken Kimball officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.

Alice Mathilda Marti was born on Dec. 25, 1911, on her grandparents' rural Allamakee County farm. Her parents were Philip and Inga (Sorum) Marti. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon and attended the Elk Rural School. Alice lived and worked very hard on farms with her parents and brothers in Jefferson Township all of her life. She gardened, cooked, and canned, along with many other household chores. On the farm, she took care of the sheep, chickens, and calves along with maintaining the milking equipment. She was a member of the Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid.

Alice is preceded in death by her parents and five brothers, Herman, Alton, Victor, Marvin, and an infant. Survivors include five brothers, Gordon and Lester Marti, both of Luana, Kenneth (Penny) and Wilbur Marti, both of Waukon, and Grant (Corey) Marti of Dubuque.

Honorary casket bearers were Lester Fish, Neil Leas, Sylvia Marti, Joe and Mae Jean Bakke, and Mabel Johnson. Casket bearers were George Decker, Robert Marti, Dayton Fish, Nick Jones, Harlan Yohe, and Dean Bechtel.

Martin Funeral Home of Waukon is assisting the family.
