Raymond John Mauss

Funeral services for Raymond John Mauss, 80, were held Monday, May 11, at 11 a.m. at Salem United Church of Christ. Pastor Diane Shelly officiated.

Burial was in the Salem Cemetery.

Martin Bros. Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

He died May 8, 1987 at LaCrosse Lutheran Hospital.

Raymond John Mauss, son of John Mauss and Eva Hoffman, was born September 10, 1906 in French Creek Township, Allamakee County.

December 26, 1942 he married Leona Selberg at the Salem Parsonage.

He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II as an electrical instructor. He lived in the Waukon area, worked as a farmer, on road construction in Allamakee County from 1928-1942 and at John Deere and Farmall Implement as a mechanic. He attended country schools and was a member of the American Legion.

Preceding him in death was one brother, Joseph.

Survivors include his wife Leona, 1 son, Ronald, of Upland, California; 3 daughters, Mrs. Joe (Sheryl) Lea, Mason City, Mrs. Jim (Sandra) Lanning, West Des Moines; Mrs. Gary (Ann) Spoelhof, Grand Rapids, MI; a sister, Mrs. Cyril (Lucille) Byrnes, Lansing; 9 grandchildren and 2 step-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Arden Iverson, Robert Stuckman, Cletus Rooney, Valiere Dundee, Harold Hoffman and Ralph Welch. Honorary pallbearers are Arthur Fiet, Otto Schuttemeier, Elmer Ehde and Alfred Hansmeier.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 11 at Salem United Church of Christ for Raymond John Mauss, 80, of Waukon, who died Friday, May 8, at Lutheran hospital in La Crosse, WI. Pastor Diane Shelly officiated. Burial was in Salem church cemetery with Martin funeral home in charge of arrangements.

He was born Sept. 10, 1906 in French Creek township to John and Eva Hoffman Mauss. He attended country schools and married Leona Selberg Dec 26, 1942 at the Salem UCC parsonage by the Rev. Ed Debuhr. He farmed at home and worked road construction in Allamakee county from 1928 to 1942.

He served in the Navy during World War II as an electrical instructor stationed in Ames, and had worked as a mechanic for John Deere and Farmall implements. He owned his own electric repair shop and enjoyed trout fishing, building steam engines, old cars and working with Alcoholic Anonymous. He has been a resident of Aase Haugen home in Decorah since Dec 31, 1986. He was a member of the American Legion.

Servers (sic) include his wife; a son Ronald of Upland, CA; three daughters, Mrs. Joe (Sheryl) Lea of Mason City; Mrs. Jim (Sandra) Lanning of Des Moines and Mrs. Gary (Ann) Spoelhof of Grand Rapids, MI; nine grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Cyril (Lucille) Byrnes of Lansing.
