James Patrick Moore

James Patrick Moore, a lifelong resident of New Albin, died suddenly at his home Sunday, June 27, 2010 at the age of 79. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 3 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in New Albin, followed by a celebration of Jim’s life in the parish hall. Visitation is scheduled for Friday, July 2 from 4-8 p.m. in the New Albin Community Center. Scripture Service will begin at 4 p.m. and the Rosary, led by the St. George Knights of Columbus, will be at 7:45 p.m.
Jim was born July 5, 1930 to Cornelius and Margaret (Maude) Gallagher Moore in the family home on their farm on the Sand Cove. He lived his entire life there except for his period of service in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955. Following his return from overseas, he met Virginia May Ferring of Waukon September 17, 1956. They were married June 8, 1957.
Jim formed a partnership, Moore Brothers, with his brother, Roy Moore of Lansing. They farmed together until Roy retired from farming. Jim also worked as an insurance agent for several companies and at Northern Engraving until his retirement in 1996.
Jim and Virginia raised eight children on their family farm. He was a devoted fan of the Kee Hawks baseball team. Jim was also a proud member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed traveling, especially to attend his grandchildren’s activities and special events.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Roy, and Roy's wife, Bernice, of Lansing; his sister and her husband, Hazel and John Hennessey of Lansing; a sister-in-law, Thelma Moore of Monroe, WA; and his son, Keith Moore, Ph.D of Denver, CO.
Jim is survived by his wife of 53 years, Virginia; his brother, Leo Moore of Monroe, WA; his son, Thomas James (Pamela) Moore of Iowa City; his daughter, USN Commander Pamela Sue (Wayne) O’Loughlin, Ph.D. of Gulf Breeze, FL; his son, Timothy Leo (Wil) Moore of Phoenix, AZ; his daughter, Karen Sue (Tim) Johnson, Ph.D. of Garden City, KS; his son, Paul John (Sue) Moore of Omaha, NE; his daughter, Mary Kay (Casey) Moore of Des Moines; his daughter, Melanie May (Scott) Ritterling of Brownsville, MN; 16 (and counting) grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The Thornburg-DeVries Funeral Home of Lansing is in charge of arrangements.
