The town of Lansing was rudely shocked Friday morning with the sudden death of Mr. John Boylan, 54, who passed away from a coronary about ten o'clock in the backyard. She had been here about two months assisting in household duties and the care of her aged mother. The gospel saying, "In the midst of life life we are in death" (sic) was never more exemplified as she appeared in perfect health as she spoke to Joe Mauss who saw her laying on the ground and summoned help from the Village Farm and Home Store where Rt. Rev. Msgr. Victor Hintgen was talking to Lloyd Welsh. Father Hintgen administered the last rites as she still seemed to be breathing when lifted to the Gander automobile nearby.
As Rita Casey, she was born at Lansing, March 1st., 1913, the youngest of three daughters to Hannah Kilgariff and Cornelius Casey. She graduated from Immaculate Conception High School and on October 29, 1930 was united in marriage to John Boylan of Graceville, Minn. at St. Gertrude's Church in Chicago. They made their home a short time here and for the past thirty-seven years have been residents of Flint, Mich. They were the parents of one daughter, Mary Kay, now Mrs. Don Murray of Cincinnati, Ohio, who survives with the bereaved father. Other immediate survivors besides her mother include one sister, Kathryn, Mrs. Harry Foster of San Francisco, Calif.; four grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. She was a member of the St. Matthew's Altar Society in Flint, devoted to her home and active in church affairs. Preceding her in death were her father, an only brother and older sister.
The funeral services were held Monday morning at nine o'clock from Immaculate Conception Church with Rt. Rev. Msgr. Hintgen offering the Mass of Requiem and saying the final prayers at the graveside in Gethsemane Cemetery where interment was made. Casket bearers were Cyril Murphy, Al Hefty, James Powers, Francis Kilgariff and John Dunlevy.
Among out of town relatives and friends attending the funeral services were Mrs. Bob Hartwig, Wausau, Wis,; Colleen Dunlevy, Ann Arbor, Mich., Kitty Dunlevy, Madison, Wis.; Mrs. Joe Kilgariff and Cyril Murphy Jr., LaCrosse, Wis.
