John W. Kelly 1881-1967

John W. Kelly passed away in St. Camillus Hospital, Milwaukee, Wis. at 3:30 a.m. April 13 after an illness of about two months. Mr. Kelly, long time resident of New Albin, had made his home with his daughter and son-in-law in Waterloo, Wis. and later in Milwaukee.
John Kelly, eldest son of Patrick and Bridget Feeney Kelly, was born in Iowa township on August 7, 1881.
On July 16, 1913 he was united in marriage to Rose Morgan, who passed away in 1943. To this union three children were born, Leo J. Kelly, Charles City; Mrs. John Montague (Helen) Milwaukee, and Kenneth J. Kelly, San Francisco, Calif.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers and one sister who died in infancy and Mrs. Wm. Caughlin (Mayme) and Frank, Joe and Walt Kelly.
For many years Mr. and Mrs. Kelly operated a restaurant and dance hall in New Albin.
Besides his three children, he is survived by two daughters-in-law and twelve grandchildren, Timothy, serving on the U.S. Destroyer, Carpenter in the coastal waters off Viet Nam, Kathleen, Kevin, Nelly, Patrick, Michael, Mary Ellen and Christopher Kelly and Rose Mary, Margaret, Kenneth and Joan Montague.
He belonged to the Mens' Catholic Order of Foresters for over fifty years and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus at the St. Rita's Holy Name Society, West Allis, Wis.
Mr. Kelly's funeral was held from the Burke's Funeral Chapel in Lansing to St. Joseph's Church in New Albin where Father E.C. Kolfenbach celebrated the Mass of Requiem and recited the prayers at the graveside at St. Joseph's Cemetery.
Pallbearers were: Lawrence Ryan, Earl Welsh, Lee Weymiller, Melvin Darling, Pete Whalen and Floyd Pottratz.
