Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon from the Burke Funeral Chapel for Henry Miller, 77, who passed away last Wednesday at the Veteran's Hospital in Grand Island, Nebr. where he had been a resident for the past year. His health had been failing for some time and about one month ago, his brother Art and wife visited him.
He was born at Lansing September 12, 1881, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Miller, and one of several children. He attended the city schools and for years was a railroad employee after serving with the U.S. troops in the Spanish American war. Besides Arthur of Lansing he is survived by another brother Frank of Portage, Wis, and one sister Anna, Mrs. Ed Bernitt of Marshfield, Wis. along with several nieces and nephews.
Rev. Thomas Balm officiated at the chapel services and said the final prayers at the graveside in Oak Hill Cemetery with interment was made with full military honors. Soloist was Mrs. Tom Gilbertson, accompanied by organist Evelyn Lenz. Casket bearers were John Thompson, Robert Protsman, Arne Helle, Karl Kohlstad, Gus Laabs and Robert Maust Sr. Commander Ray Verdon was in charge of the military squad composed of Everett and Bob Stahl, Ralph Hanson, Jackie Powers, John Englehorn, Bob Middendorf and Gerald Sandry. The flag was rolled and presented to his sister by James Seeley and Raymond Sweeney. His brother Frank of Portage was here to attend the burial services. Taps were played by Richard Gramlich and Freddie Hogan.
