PIONEER BARBER IS BURIED HERE MON. - MICHAEL SCHOBERT, 82, FORMER LANSING RESIDENT, DIES AT CALEDONIA, MINN.
Michael Schobert, old-time Lansing barber, succumbed to a paralytic stroke at the home of his daughter Lena, Mrs. James L. Carroll, near Caledonia, Minn., Friday, Dec. 6, 1935. He was stricken Monday, Dec. 2 and died as above stated without regaining consciousness.
Deceased was born at Buffalo, NY, March 15, 1853, and came to Lansing with his parents at the age of 3 years, where he lived until 1928, when he moved to Cincinnatti, Ohio, with his daughter Mayme, Mrs. Joe Ross, and made his home there until about a year and a half ago, when he came back and went to live with his younger daughter, Mrs. James L. Carroll, of near Caledonia.
As a young man Mike learned the barber trade from a younger brother, John, succeeding him in business at the old stand now occupied by Hjalmer Aschom, when he moved to St. Charles, Minn.
Mr. Schobert was married at St. Mary's, Lycurgus Sept. 28, 1886, by the late Father Norton, to Miss. Henrietta Haas, who preceded him in death March 31, 1925. He is survived by four children, William of Dubuque, Mayme, Mrs. J. Ross, Cincinnatti, Ohio, Edward of Lathrop, California, and Lena, Mrs. James L. Carroll of near Caledonia, where he died. Fifteen grandchildren also survive him.
His son William and daughter Mrs. James Carroll were the only children able to be present at the funeral, Monday morning, at 9 o'clock, from the Catholic Church in Lansing, where many of his old neighbors and friends had gathered to pay him their last respects. The following friends accompained the funeral from Caledonia: Mr. and Mrs. Henry Meyer, Wm. Gallagher, Mr. and Mrs. P. Gran, Caledonia; Lawrence Carroll, New Albin. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Teeling and son Vincent of Dubuque, Mrs. Clarence Haas, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Haas and son Joe, Ed. Haas and mother, and Mrs. Ed. Duggan and daughter Dorothy, all of Waukon, were among those who met the funeral here.
