Adolph Ferdinand Gruber, 81, died June 6 in Northwestern Hospital, Chicago. He was born January 6, 1896 at Lansing to Ferdinand and Francis Troendle Gruber. He was a life long resident of Allamakee county and was a farmer.
He was educated in the local schools and on January 14, 1926 he was married in Lansing to Afton Riser. They made their home on a Faegre Prairie farm until retiring and moving to Waukon.
His wife survives as well as a son, Rolland Gruber, of Dyer, Indiana; three daughters, Mrs Arnold (Elizabeth) Rose and Mrs. Eugene (Lois) Messmore, both of Chicago; and Mrs. Andrew (Mabel) Schulte of rural Decorah. 20 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Leslie (Irene) Kerndt Sr. of Waukon; three brothers, Freeman of Carroll, IA, Harvey of Monona, IA and Clarence of Richfield, Minnesota.
A sister, Alvina is deceased. Services were held at St. Paul's Methodist Church in Waukon on Thursday, June 9, at 1 p.m. Rev. Gerald McGee will officiate and pallbearers will be six grandsons, Glenn and Carl Rose, Wayne Underwood and Charles, Gary and Mike Schulte.
Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Lansing. Martin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
