Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Steffen, 97, of Mason City, were held Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. from Martin Bros. Funeral Home with the Rev. Mr. Wm. Tjaden officiating. Mrs. Steffen passed away at a nursing home in Mason City on May 4 from the infirmities of age.
Martha Sarah Steffen was born June 25, 1869 near Waukon, her parents being Simon and Augusta Simonsmeier Helming. She was married on June 21, 1899 to Albert I. Steffen who passed away in August of 1946. They lived on a farm in Ludlow township, moving to Waukon in November 1919. In 1955, Mrs. Steffen moved to Mason City, since which time she has resided with her daughters, Amy and Frances, teachers in the Mason City schools.
Mrs. Steffen was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Mason City.
Survivors are five daughters, Laura Steffen, Kenosha, Wis.; Amy and Frances, Mason City; Althes (sic) Mrs. Eric Ericson, Rockford, Ill.: and Marian, Mrs. D.J. Fenwick, Portland, Oregon. There are three grandchildren, one great-grandchild and a sister, Miss Clara Helming, Arlington, VA.
Interment was in Oakland Cemetery with Herbert Straate, Art Thoma, Donald Bulman, Earl Kelley, Roland Kiesau and Merton Palmer, pallbearers.
