Joel Cole died at his home in Postville, Iowa
Tuesday, March 19, 1907, aged 70 years, 11
months and 20 days, death being due to heart
failure following a protracted spell of failing
health. He was born in Oakland county, Michigan
and came to Allamakee county, in 1856, where
(excepting fours years spent in Nebraska) he has
resided continuously since. He was married to
Savilla Grossman July 3, 1961. To this union
were born four children, two of whom (George W.
and Emily A.) with the mother survive him, the
other two (Ida G. and Warren B.) having passed
away during the scourge of diphtheria which
visited this section in 1877.
Mr. Cole was a quiet, honest, hard working man
and a good citizen in every way, and friends
innumerable will learn with sorrow of his demise.
Perhaps the highest tribute that could be paid his
memory, is the fact that during more than half
century he has lived in this vicinity no person has
ever sught of ill against him.
The funeral was held from the family home yesterday
afternoon at two o'clock, Rev. C. E. Smith
officiating. Interment in the Postville cemetery.
