Graveside services for Charlene Ewing were held Wednesday, February 19, 2003, at 1:30 P.M. at the Evergreen-Cleveland Cemetery in Post Township, Allamakee County, Postville, Iowa. Pastor Verdon Swenson read the committal service. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Charlene Vesta Ewing, the daughter of Charley Theron Webster and Myrtle Zoe (nee Van Wey) Webster, was born October 23, 1920, in the Postville Hospital. She passed away Sunday, February 16, 2003, in the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center in Marshalltown, Iowa. She had reached the age of 82 years, 3 months, and 23 days. She attended the Forest Mills Country School and the Waukon High School. On November 5, 1938, Charlene was married to Harry Ewing at Dubuque, Iowa. To this union four children were born, Donald, Denise, Dixie, and Wesley. Charlene and Harry were divorced and Harry passed away in 1990. Charlene lived all of her life in Iowa. She worked as a waitress and following her retirement, she moved to Montour, Iowa. She is preceded in death by her parents, her former husband, Harry, a son, Wesley Ewing, who died in infancy, and a granddaughter, Kelli Potter. Surviving are a son, Donald Ewing and wife, Joan of Lansing, Iowa, two daughters, Denise and husband, Gene Ribby of Montour, Iowa, and Dixie and husband, Ron Nyheim of Marshalltown, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Sherry Ribby Ahrens, Chris Ribby, Alan Ribby, Steven Ewing, Dawn Ewing, Deneen Ewing, Joel Potter, Dane Michael Potter; six great grandchildren, Angie Luft, Rachel Ribby Brian Ribby, Natasha Ribby, Alex Ribby, and Storm Ribby, and one great great grandchild, Cloey Luft. Charlene had been a member of the Forest Mills United Methodist Church and the Paternal Order of Eagles.
