Addie Easton, 101, died Wednesday morning at a Mason City nursing home. A native of New York, she had lived in Iowa 90 years, at Postville, Garner and Mason City.

Mrs. Easton was born in Neversink, Sullivan County, New York, May 28, 1856. Her parents were Calvin and Helen Sparks. Her father died shortly after his return from the Civil War from injuries received during the war. Her mother was left with four children.

When she was 11, Mrs. Easton came to Iowa to live with an aunt, Mrs. William Mott, at Luana. She taught school when she was 16 and later spent two years at Upper Iowa University.

In 1884 she was married to T. B. Easton, who was in the furniture and undertaking business in Postville. He was a widower with two children. The Eastons moved to Garner in 1891 where Mr. Easton continued in the same business. Later they moved to Mason City, where he preceded her in death in 1912.

Mrs. Easton was house secretary at the YWCA for 10 years, resigning when she was 71. For a number of years she had made her home with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Locke Easton, 209 9th N.W.

She was a member of the First Methodist Church and the Midland Club and a charter member of the Progressive Club of Garner.

Surviving are her son, four grandchildren, Shirley, Lois, Locke J., and Jack, and five great grandchildren.
