Jeanette M. Danaher, 71, of Waukon, formerly of Dorchester, died Thursday, May 26, 2010 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services were held Saturday, May 29 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dorchester with Fr. Joseph Schnieder and Rev. Msgr. Ed Lechtenberg officiating. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Dorchester.
Jeanette Marie Danaher was born January 25, 1939 in Neva, WI, the daughter of Bertrand and Irene (Greisinger) Danaher. Later that year she and her family moved to Dorchester. She attended Dorchester Elementary School and graduated from Waukon High School in 1956. Jeanette lived in California for a short time before moving to Cedar Rapids, where she worked for Collins Radio. Jeanette moved back to Dorchester and worked for Control Data in Spring Grove, MN for several years. Later she owned and operated the grocery store in Dorchester and worked for the Allamakee Community School District at the Dorchester attendance center. In 1979 she was appointed Postmaster of the Dorchester Post Office, retiring in 2003. Jeanette moved to Waukon in 2001.
Jeanette was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dorchester, where she taught CCD for many years. She was also a member of the National League of Postmasters. Jeanette volunteered for St. Vincent De Paul’s, Veterans Memorial Hospital, and meals on wheels. She enjoyed working in her flower gardens, shopping, gambling, and collecting depression glass. Jeanette loved to visit with people wherever she went, especially little kids. Jeanette wintered in Arizona and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan.
Survivors include one sister, Mary Ellen Eglseder of Omaha, NE; two brothers, Tony (Anna Marie) Danaher of Casper, WY and Dennis (Judy) Danaher of Aurora, CO; 12 nieces and nephews; and the family of Ray and Lila Mahr, Robert, Julie, Dennis, Elaine, Melinda, Roger and Karen and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-father, Nathan Kumpf; a brother, Thomas Danaher; and a brother-in-law, Clarence Eglseder.
Casket bearers were Roger, Dennis and Robert Mahr, Rupert Caballero, Alan Musser and Dennis Homewood.
