Charles J. Fritz, 75 of Norfolk, Va., passed away January 29, 2003. Funeral services were held Saturday, February 1 at the chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial with full military honors followed at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in the Veteran's Garden. Charles Fritz was born in Waukon to the late Herbert and Marie (Persona) Fritz. He retired from the U.S. Navy with 25 years of honorable service during which he served in World War II and the Korean Conflict. During his military career, he served with the USS Copahee CVE 12, 109th CBs Guam, M.I., USS Gen. G.M. Randall, USS De Haven DD 727, USS Picking DD 586, USS Kearsarge CVA 33, USS Lexington CVA 16, US Navcruitsta Chicago, USS Roosevelt CVA 42, USS Forrestal CVA 59, Inman 15 Canal Zone, USS Cambria APA 36, and AMSU LCAB Norfolk. Following his military retirement, he worked for Horne Brothers Shipyard and QED. He was a member of the Brotherly Love Masonic Lodge No. 23 in Postville. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Norma J. (Gibbs) Fritz; a daughter, Malia J. (David) Steinmacher of Georgia; a son-in-law, Jim Grecco of Norfolk; a great-granddaughter; a brother, Robert (JoAnn) Fritz; two sisters, Ruth (James) Jacobson and Esther (Alvin ) Honetor.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Renee J. Grecco.
