Edwin Warnhoff

Edwin LeRoy (Roy) Warnhoff, 96, of Waukon, died Thursday, July 1, 1999 at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon.

Funeral services will be held today (Tuesday), at 10 a.m. at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon with Rev. Richard N. Eick officiating.

Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Waukon.

Roy was born on March 18, 1903 in Chesterton, Ind., the son of Fred and Edna (Greening) Warnhoff. He was raised on a farm and attended school in Indiana. On March 18, 1942, he married Viola Stock at her parents home in Ludlow Township in rural Waukon.

They lived in Michigan City, Ind., and Chicago, where he worked as a baker before retiring to Waukon in 1974. He enjoyed walking, studying history and nature and reading National Geographic magazines, as well as baking cakes for his family. He and Viola traveled extensively throughout the United States, mostly by bus. Roy was a member of the Bakers Union in Chicago, and was an active member of Zion United Church of Christ.

Roy is preceded in death by his parents and a niece, Joyce Stock. Survivors include his wife, Viola; a nephew Roger and Carol Stock of Waukon; two nieces Shirley and Edgar Brainard of Waukon, and Beverly and Larry Whittle of Decorah and two sisters-in-law, Luella Stock and Amanda Stock, both of Waukon.

Honorary casket bearers are Harold Valley, Urban Sanderman and Valiere
Dundee. Casket bearers are Aaron Whittle, John Simmons, Carlton Christiansen, Lou Swenson, Robert 0. Stock and Roland Grotegut.
