Wm. Lawson, 86, Community Pioneer, Passes Away Friday

William Lawson, 86 years old, passed away Friday evening at 6 o'clock at the home of his youngest daughter, Mrs. Lewis Peterson, at Waukon, following a few days illness. He had made his home there the past year.

Funeral services were held here on Monday afternoon at 2:00 at the Schutte Funeral Home and at 2:30 o'clock in the Postville Community Presbyterian church. The Rev. L. E. Crippen of Marshalltown, former U. B. pastor here, officiated, and interment was in the Postville cemetery. The pallbearers were the grandsons of the deceased, Deene Peterson, Clifford, Cloy, Roland, Gordon and Leslie Lawson. Two great-granddaughters, Inez and Lavon Ewing were flower girls.

Born as the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Lawson in Franklin township, Allamakee county, October 27, 1858. Mr. Lawson had spent his entire lifetime as a resident of this community. He was married to Bertha Roffman on April 9, 1883, and to them were born nine children. His wife and one son, Elmer Lawson, preceded him in death.

Mr. Lawson is survived by the following children: Fred, Sherman, Frank Lawson and Mrs. Fred Segrist of Postville; John Lawson of Harshaw, Wis., Leonard Lawson and Mrs. Lewis Peterson of Waukon, and Mrs. Michael Weber of Cedar Rapids. Also surviving are 21 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; also a sister, Mrs. Will White of Oklahoma, and a brother, Henry Lawson, of Postville.

The out of town people here for the funeral included, Mr. and Mrs. John D. Lawson of Harshaw, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. Michael Weber of Cedar Rapids, Clifford Lawson of Marion, Mrs. Edna Dreier, Frank and Willard Vickery and Mrs. Joe Hurda and two daughters of Prairie du Chien, Wis., and Mr. and Mrs. Darwin Werhan of West Union.
