Frances Marion Johnson 1924-2010

Frances “Fran” M. Johnson, 86, of Waukon died Sunday, April 11, 2010 at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 16 at 1 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Waukon, with Pastor Deb Lind-Schmitz officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, April 15 at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon.
Frances Marion Johnson was born January 2, 1924, the daughter of Ole B. and Gena (Bringsjord) Johnson in Decorah. She attended school in Decorah. April 19, 1947 she married Emmett L. Johnson in Winneshiek County. Several years after they were married they moved to Waukon. In 1963 Fran started working at Gurian and Geffert manufacturing and later for Northern Engraving before retiring in 1988. Fran then moved to Decorah, where she lived until July of 2007, before returning back to Waukon, where she has been a resident at the Good Samaritan Center.
Fran was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed traveling with her relatives, watching the Chicago Cubs, playing cards and bingo and working in her flower gardens, raising roses and watching hummingbirds. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her children, Obert (Jane) Johnson of Waukon and Judy (Dewane) Metcalf of Waterloo; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two sisters, Evelyn Pierce of Decorah and Gladys Herold of Nebraska; two brothers, Merlyn Johnson of Dubuque and Donald (Shirley) Johnson of Decorah. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Emmett, who died in 1985; and two sisters, Helen Enyart and Thelma Pahl.
Honorary casket bearers are Chad Johnson, Dr. Candice Smith Johnson, Keri, Skylar and Tanya Petty, and Andrea and Mike Cafaro. Casket bearers are Chris, Zach and Casey Johnson, Adam and Scott Metcalf, Matthew Petty and Chuck Bloxham.
