Mrs. THOMAS P. (Helen L. McKernan) Looney 1902-1987

Helen L. Looney, 84, a resident of Peoria, IL., for the past 24 years, died at St. Francis Medical Center, where she had been a patient for three days.

Born Sept. 5, 1902, in Castalia, to Robert J. and Katherine (Powers) McKernan, she married Thomas P. Looney, March 4, 1924, in Postville. They farmed in the St. Olaf area, and in 1937 moved to a farm northeast of Postville. Following his death, August 21, 1947, she moved to Waterloo, where she owned a Laundromat in Cedar Falls. She then went to Peoria, IL, where she owned and operated Helen's Laundromat for 15 years. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and its Martha and Mary Society.

Surviving are one son, John E. of Irvine, CA; five daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Julie) Foley and Mrs. Michael (Carol) McFarland, both of Peoria, IL, Mrs. Santa (Kathleen) DeMarini of Bartonville, IL; Mrs. Lee (Dorothy) Untiedt of Waterloo and Mrs. Robert (Donna) Parkin of Long Beach, CA; 24 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and one sister, Margaret Dowd of Los Angeles. She was preceded in death by three brothers, two sisters, and three grandchildren.

Services were at 9:30 a.m. February 27 at Wright and Salmon Mortuary and at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Church, with Franciscan friars officiating. Burial was in Resurrection Cemetery, Peoria, IL.
