Funeral services were held Monday, March 27, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, at 1:30 p.m. for Mark William Koenig, who was killed in a train-tractor accident east of Postville on Friday, March 24. The Rev. Richard B. Housman was in charge of the rites; burial was in Pleasant View cemetery, Castalia.
Mark William Koenig was born March 27, 1949 in Decorah, the son of Orville and Irene Bachelder Koenig. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, on June 12, 1949 by Rev. F. R. Ludwig. He was confirmed on April 15, 1962 in St. Paul by Rev. Charles E. Witt.
Mark departed this life on March 24, 1967 at Community Memorial Hospital, Postville, as a result of injuries received in a tractor-train accident two miles east of Postville on the Hardin road. The youth had been working for Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Martins of Postville.
He was a member of the 1967 senior class of Postville Community High School. He was active in Winneshiek county 4-H Club work and the Future Farmers of America, Postville chapter.
Survivors include his parents; one sister, Sally of Cedar Rapids; three brothers, Reid, Gale, and Lon, at home; his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Koenig and his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Bachelder, all of Castalia; aunts uncles, cousins and a host of friends.
