Funeral services were held last Wednesday afternoon at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Castalia for Mrs. Lena Meyer, who passed away February 3. The Rev. Byron Surface officiated.

Mrs. Lena Hulverson Meyer was born January 11, 1873, on a farm near Elkader, Clayton county, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at the early age in the Lutheran faith on July 17, 1900 at Monona. She was married to August C. Meyer of Elkader by the Rev. S. Beatty. The couple lived on a farm near Elkader until 1909 when they moved to a farm near Castalia. After the death of her husband in 1942, Mrs. Meyer moved to Castalia where she has since resided.

On December 6, she suffered a broken hip in a fall in her home. Since that time she had been a patient in Rochester and in the Good Samaritan Home in Waukon, where she passed away at 10:30 p.m. on February 3, at the age of 84 year and 23 days.

She was precede in death by her husband and one son. Surviving are three daughters, Esther (Mrs. George Schultz), Vera (Mrs. Melvin Buddenberg), both of Castalia and Inez (Mrs. Daniel Schoonmaker) of Waterloo; two sons, Vernon of Yuma, Arizona, and Orvel of Minneapolis, Minnesota; a twin sister Tena Hulverson of St. Olaf; 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Note: burial is in Pleasant View cemetery, Castalia, Winneshiek co.
