Bertha (Radloff) Meyer

Mrs. Fritz F. Meyer, nee Bertha Louise Caroline Radloff, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Radloff, was born on May 5, 1903 at Clayton Center, Iowa. At the age of five weeks, she was adopted by Mr. and Mrs. Gustav Kuhse of Clayton Center. She was baptized on June 7, 1903 at Zion Lutheran Church, Clayton Center, and was confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Postville on April 16, 1916.

She died at the Community Memorial Hospital in Postville on January 22, 1962 at the age of 58 years, eight months and 17 days.

She lived near Clayton Center until 1910 when she moved to a farm south of Postville, where she lived the remainder of her life.

She was married to Fritz F. Meyer on December 29, 1921. To this union were born eight sons and three daughters.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her adoptive parents; two sons, Kenneth who died in infancy, and one son, who was stillborn; one grandson, Larry Gene Meyer of Postville; three brothers, Frank, who died in infancy, John who died in the flu epidemic of 1918, and Woodrow; five sisters, Marie and Lenora, who died in infancy, Greta and Lena, who died in the flu epidemic of 1918 and Mrs. Ora Ewing of Buena Vista.

She is survived by her husband; six sons, Richard, Harold, Donald, Roland, and Frederick of Postville and Gerald, in the service at Fort Carson, Colorado; three daughters, Joan, Mrs. Harvey Plaht of Postville; and Marlene and Darlene at home; seven grandchildren, three sisters, Sarah, Mrs. Gustav Kuhse of Elkader; Eleanor, Mrs. LeRoy Beckman of Peosta; Mrs. Nora Pierce of Sterling, Colorado; two brothers, Owen Radloff of Manchester, and Rialto Radloff of Davenport; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 25, at 1:30 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Postville, with the Rev. Charles E. Witt, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Postville cemetery.
