Alma Koenig

Funeral services for Alma Koenig were held Saturday, Feb. 3, 1:30 p.m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville. Rev. Julius Peterson officiated. Schutte Funeral Service, Postville, was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.

Alma Anna Sophia Frieda (Schlie) Koenig, age 95, died Thursday morning, Feb. 1, 1990 in Community Memorial Hospital at Postville. She was born the daughter of Christian and Anna (Mohs) Schlie on Nov. 14, 1894, in rural Grand Meadow Township, Clayton County.

She was baptized Dec. 25, 1894 at the Luana Lutheran Church. Her parents farmed in Grand Meadow Township for one year and then moved to a farm near Lime Springs, Iowa.

Alma attended school in Bon Aire, a small rural community near Lime Springs. After her father died in 1908 Alma moved to Postville to live with her uncle, William Schlie. In 1910 she was confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville.

On January 24, 1917 she married Fred H. Koenig at St. Paul Lutheran Parsonage, Postville. They farmed on the Koenig farm in Bloomfield Township, Winneshiek County. She lived on this farm until she became a resident of the Good Samaritan Home in January, 1988. Fred and Alma had celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary together.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Fred, a daughter-in-law, Florence, 3 grandchildren, a brother, William and a half brother, Clarence.

Surviving are six sons, Harlen and Earl, both of Frankville, Leonard, Postville, Milton, Castalia, Verne, Decorah and Loren, Postville; 27 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; a half brother, Walter Schlie, Mesa, AZ, and a half sister, Elvina Schlie, Sioux Falls, SD.

She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville.

Casket Bearers: Douglas, Koenig, James Koenig, Jody Koenig, Daryl Schultz, Dennis Koenig and Dale Koenig.
