Obien S. Kessel, 92, of Machesney Park, IL passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2010 in OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center after an extended illness. Graveside service was held Monday, February 8 at Willwood Burial Park in Machesney Park, IL with Pastor Gary Park officiating. Arrangements were handled by Wilbur Christenson Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Machesney Park, IL.
The son of Elton and Isabel (Ellefson) Kessel, Obien was born November 21, 1917 in Lansing. In 1945 he moved to Rockford, IL and married Norma Johnson October 2, 1945 in Waukon.
He was employed in construction by Holmberg and Holm and Interpace Cement Factory in South Beloit for several years before his retirement in 1981 He was a Veteran of World War II, for a brief time serving in the Army. He was also a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Loves Park, IL.
Survivors include his wife, Norma of Machesney Park, IL; his children, Roger (Shelbie) Kessel of Machesney Park, IL, Cheryl Clankie of Janesville, WI, and Curtis Kessel of Beloit, WI; his granddaughters, Michelle (Frank) Mylomas of Chicago, IL and Patrice Whitsitt of Pennsylvania; a grandson, Joe (Christy) Myers of Loves Park, IL; and his great-granddaughters, Rachel and Stephanie Whitsitt of Rogersville, MO, Franchesca and Joanna Mylomas of Chicago, IL, and Summer Jane Myers of Loves Park, IL.Waukon, Iowa newspaper, THE STANDARD, February 10, 2010
