Funeral services for Sarah Gordanier were held Thursday, September 15, 1988 at 11 a.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville. The Rev. Julius Peterson officiated. Schutte Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Orleans Cemetery, Ridgeway, Iowa.

Sarah Emilia Gordanier, daughter of Andrew and Brita (Ellingson) Stinson, was born March 2, 1897 in Winneshiek County, Iowa. She died Monday evening, September 12, 1988 at Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, Iowa.

Sarah lived most of her life in the Decorah and Cresco areas. on April 18, 1946 she married Horace P. Gordanier in Postville.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Horace, who died December 1, 1950; 4 brothers, Steen, Elling, Alfred and Henry; 3 sisters, Bertha, Minnie and Lenora; a step-daughter, Opal Gordanier, and one step-son, Howard Gordanier.

She is survived by three step-daughters, Bernice McCaffrey of Sylmar, CA, Murtis Smith of Waterloo, and Violet Sherburne of Sumner; 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 16 nieces and nephews.

Casket bearers were Andrew and Craig Smith, Robert, Bradley and Steven Sherburne, Mark Jellum, Greg and Darrell Berge, Phil Anderson and Marc Bigelow.
