Services were conducted Thursday, July 6 at 2:00 p.m. from St. Paul Lutheran church, Postville, for Alvin W. Gruel who died July 3 in Veterans' Memorial Hospital, Waukon. The Rev. Marlyn D. Hansing officiated. Interment was in the Postville Cemetery.

Alvin W. Gruel, son of Herman and Wilhelmine Koss Gruel, was born on a farm near Hardin, Iowa, October 9, 1900. He received his early education in the school at Hardin.

January 27, 1926 he was united in marriage to Amanda Luebke. To this union three sons were born.

Mr. and Mrs. Gruel farmed in Clayton and Allamakee counties until his retirement in 1966 when he moved to Waukon.

Preceding him in death were his parents, a son Darwin in 1943, and his wife Amanda in 1961.

Mr. Gruel is survived by two sons, Karlton of Waukon, and Larry of Bolingbrook, Illinois; a granddaughter; a brother Wilbert Gruel, Decorah and a sister Mrs. Viola Lenth of Monona.
