Wilbur N. Marti, 84, of Waukon died Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 26 at Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church in rural Waukon, with Pastor Ken Kimball officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Martin Funeral Home, Waukon, assisted the family.

Wilbur Norman Marti was born February 10, 1925 in rural Waukon, the son of Philip and Inga (Sorum) Marti. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon. Wilbur attended Jefferson #7 country school, and then helped his parents and other local farmers.

In the early 1950s he moved to San Diego, CA, where he worked for ConVeir Aircraft for 19 years. When he returned to Waukon, Wilbur farmed with his brothers and owned and operated the Whispering Pines Motel for 30 years. He was a member of Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church and enjoyed gardening, trapping pocket gophers, picking and cracking hickory nuts, fishing, and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include three brothers, Gordon of Luana, Kenneth (Penny) of Waukon, and Grant of Dubuque; a sister-in-law, Sylvia Marti of Marion; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Herman, Alton, Victor, Marvin, Lester, and an infant brother; and a sister, Alice Marti.

Casketbearers were Dayton Fish, Robert Marti, David Leas, Brad Decker, Dave Hansmeier and Erik Hagen.
