Donald Lee "Steve" Folsom, 94, of Postville, Iowa, died Friday, January 15, 2010, at his home. Memorial services will be held on Friday, January 29, 2010 at 11:00 am at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa. The Rev. Steve Brackett will officiate. Inurnment will take place at a later date.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 28, 2010, from 4-7 p.m. at the Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Postville, Iowa, and one hour before services at the church.

Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Postville, Iowa is in charge of arrangements.

He was born on October 10, 1915, in Post Township, Allamakee County, north of Postville to Richard and Mabel (Harris) Folsom. He graduated from Postville High School in 1934. Following graduation, Steve worked at the Iris Theater as a motion picture projectionist. During World War II he served in the U. S. Army Military Police Battalion in Panama.

On May 18, 1943, Steve was married to Ethel Ida Thoma at Waukon, Iowa. Following his discharge from the army, Steve returned to his job at the Iris Theater, and later he and Ethel purchased the business from the Palmer family. Steve also began his life-long career as an upholsterer for the Louis Schutte & Sons furniture business, which was located next to the theater.

Steve was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville and a 50-year member of the American Legion. He enjoyed the outdoors, including hunting, and was an especially avid fisherman. Steve will be missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his step-daughter, Margaret "Marge" Miller, St. Louis, MO; five grandchildren; Brenda Marks, Tucson, AZ, Gary (Joyce) Malone, Eugene, OR, Valerie Malone, Tucson, AZ, Julia (Robert) Tym, Vancouver, WA, Gregory (Tina) Malone, Decorah; two cousin, Patsy Kerndt, Waukon, Ronald "Butch" Folsom, Cresco, neighbors and good friends, Dave and Deb Hartley and great-grandchildren: Matthew, Jordan, Alison, Alisha, Deana, Stephanie, Leigh Anne, Sophia, Brody and Skyler.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Ethel Folsom; two sisters, Nina Jagerson, Thelma Folsom at 6 months old, and step-son, James J. Malone.
