John W. Spring, 64, of 3254 Thorpe St. died Saturday at a Madison hospital after a brief illness.
He was a Madison bus driver for 40 years, and was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society, and Catholic Order of Foresters.
Spring was a streetcar motorman in Madison before buses were used. He had driven over 600,000 miles during his lifetime.
Surviving are his wife, the former Elizabeth LaCrosse; four sons, Arthur, 502 N. Lawn Ave.; Walter, 62 Farrell St.; Robert, 1702 Capital Ave.; and Wilbert, Pasadena, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. James LeRoy Harper, 3254 Thorpe St.; five grandchildren; and a brother, Edward, Portland, Ore.
The body was taken to the Ryan Funeral Home.
