The death of Gilbert Engen, well known and highly respected resident east of Waukon for nearly a lifetime, occurred Friday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Haftor Aure of this township, following a lingering illness.
A son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Engen he was born in Norway March 5, 1849, and had he lived a few days longer would have attained his 89th birthday. The family came to this vicinity at an early date, settling east of Waukon, where he had since resided.
He is survived by five children, namely; Selmer, living east of Waukon, Mrs. Carl Moe of Madison, Wis., Mrs. Edna Henry of Portland, Ore., Albert, an employee of the Soo line railway, of Thief River Falls, Minn., and Mrs. Aure. Deceased was twice married, both wives and a son Gilman having preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the West Paint Creek Church, conducted by Rev. A.P. Lea. Burial was in the family lot in the nearby cemetery.
