Services for Harold LeRoy Gass were held in the Schutte Funeral Home, Postville, Tuesday, September 30 at 2:30 p.m., with the Rev. Dick Harberts officiating. Mr. Gass died at home in his sleep Saturday, September 27. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.

Mr. Gass was the son of the Rev. John J. and Wilhelmine (Borgelt) Gass and was born December 2, 1894 in Postville. He lived his entire life in the Postville community, attended the Postville school and graduated from eighth grade. He worked in the Postville brickyard and for many years farmed south of Postville.

May 26, 1932, he was married to Margaret Leui at Elkader. They made their home on the farm. He was baptized by his father and for many years attended and was involved in the Lutheran Church in Postville.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife Margaret on December 21, 1971; five sisters, Emma, Estalla, Eleanor, Rosa and Flora; five brothers, Edwin, Walter, Arthur, Herbert and Roland.

Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Arthur (Hertha) Erbe of Postville; a foster daughter, Mrs. Leonard (Ramona) Schroeder of Ossian; eight foster grandchildren, Michael of Postville; Mrs. Dale (Lynda) Zweibohmer of Decorah; Mrs. Robert (Sandy) Kapell of Ossian; Mark, Jennifer, Jess, Timothy and Zetta Lee, all at home. There are also many nieces and nephews.
