Everett Roe 1931-2003

Everett Roe, age 71, of Whitesburg, Ga., passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2003, at his residence. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, January 18, 2003, at Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel with Rev. Jeffery Halenza officiating. The American Legion Post #143 made a flag presentation. Interment was at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in College Park, Ga., at 1:00 p.m. Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel of Carrollton is in charge of the arrangements. Everett Lloyd Roe was born March 13, 1931, in Waukon to Lloyd and Dorothy (Meyer) Roe. After serving in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict, where he flew 36 combat missions over North Korea, Everett joined the Allison-Smith Company, Electrical Contractors and Engineers in 1953 as an apprentice electrician. A member of I.B.E.W. Local 613, he was named outstanding apprentice and graduated from the program first in his class. He worked his way through Georgia Tech, obtaining a degree in Electrical Engineering. As a senior project manager, he served a key role in many of the firm's past projects, which include the Trust Company of Georgia Tower, the Atlanta Merchandise Mart, Norfolk and Southern's Inman Yards, the World Congress Center and a litany of other trophy projects during his nearly 50 year career with the 60 year-old company. He taught at Atlanta Tech and the successor, the Atlanta JATC, continuously for 37 years. An accomplished pilot, Everett had numerous interests both in and outside his profession. He enjoyed beekeeping, wine making, fishing, martial arts, birdwatching, and gardening. Everett was a founding member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Carrollton. He was a member of the Greater Atlanta Electrical League, National Electrical Contractors Association, International Association of Electrical Inspectors, Atlanta Metro Code Council, and the Airline Owners and Pilots Association. He flew search missions with the Civil Air Patrol.
Through his love and concern of nature, he had his property designated as a wildlife habitat. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, William and Brian Borres. Survivors include his wife, Carol Westlake Roe; children, Joyce Woodley of Chicago, Ill., Cherly Schifull of East Moline, Ill., Vern Roe of Mableton, Ga., Jean Tepee of Des Moines, Kathy Ellington of Loganville, Ga., Don Roe of Cumming, Ga., and Karl Roe of Concord, N.C.; a daughter-in-law, Heather Borres of McDonough, Ga.; a brother, Cletus Roe of Ypslanti, Mich.; and a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
