Funeral services for Robert Lee Fitzpatrick were held Wednesday, May 14, 1997 at 11 a.m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Postville, IA. The Rev. Elizabeth Yates officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Interment was in the Postville Cemetery.

Robert Lee Fitzpatrick, the son of Raymond and Jessie A. (Beisker) Fitzpatrick was born Sept. 3, 1924 in Allamakee County, near Waukon, IA. He died Sunday morning, May 11, 1997 at his home in Postville. He had reached the age of 72 years, 8 months and 8 days.

He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith in January, 1945, at Postville, Iowa. He attended the Waukon, Frankville and Postville schools.

On February 18, 1945 Bob was married to Frances L. Kaestner in St. Andrew Lutheran Church at Van Horne, Iowa. The couple lived in Postville from 1945 to 1961 where Bob did general trucking. He hauled milk for the Carnation Company, cream for the Postville Creamery and delivered freight and mail from the railroad. From 1954 to 1961, they operated Bob's 66 Service and Cafe across from the school. He worked as an electrician with Lauren Trudo from 1960-1961. In 1961, they moved to Castalia and were the owners of Bob's Country Store. After he retired, he lived in Grundy Center, Charles City and Sumner areas and then returned to Postville.

He is preceded in death by his father, Raymond Fitzpatrick. Surviving is his wife, Frances; two daughters, Bonnie (Jim) Moellers and Rae Ann (Dan) Rochester, all of Postville and a son Mike (Teresa) Fitzpatrick of Urbandale, Iowa; 11 grandchildren: Tami (Clayton) Harms, Jim Moellers and Rick Moellers, all of Postville; Heather Natalzia of Oceanside, CA; Grant, Wendy and Paul Schultz, all of Cedar Rapids; Dan Moellers of Ely, MN, Jeff McIntyre of Grundy Center, IA; Scott Fitzpatrick of Urbandale, IA and Melissa Rochester of Waunakee, WI; 3 great-grandchildren: Samantha and Joshua Harms and Jacob Blankenship; his mother, Jessie Fitzpatrick and an aunt, Audrey Schroeder, both of Postville; two nieces, Linda (Bob) Engelking of Vinton, IA, and Cathy (Dean) Rogers of Independence, IA; one nephew, Keith (Jackie) Landgrebe of Milwaukee, WI; several cousins and many friends.

Bob was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, the IOOF Lodge in Postville, both the Postville and Castalia Fire Departments and served on the Town Council in Castalia.

Bob had been a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia, the American Lutheran Church in Grundy Center, the Messiah Lutheran Church in Charles City and St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner. He had been a member of AA in Grundy Center. Bob was active in the communities where he lived and helped to organize fund raisers to benefit organizations in the area.

Casketbearers were the Grandsons: Jim and Dan Moellers, Grant and Paul Schultz, Jeff McIntyre, Scott Fitzpatrick and Clayton Harms. Honorary casketbearers were Marvin Haverkamp, Lauren Trudo, Merle Lubka, Lyle Ellis, Gary Mundt, Michael Finnegan and Don Meyer.
