Allamakee County Soldier Returned Home for Burial

Waukon, Iowa, Aug 6 - The body of Albert Heldt, the first Allamakee county boy who died in France to be returned to this country, arrived last week and the funeral was held Sunday afternoon from the South Ludlow church, Rev. Ratz conducting the service. A large delegation, including seven or eight squads of American Legion members were out from Waukon and many others from Postville and other points were in attendance. It was one of the most largely attended funerals ever held in the county. Mr. Heldt was stricken with the flu on his way over to France and died while being transferred from the transport to the hospital at Brest. Because of this fact no record was made of his death either on the boat or in the hospital, and for a year afterward his relatives patiently awaited word from him before they learned through the Red Cross and other channels of the facts concerning his death.
