Lyle C. Wedeking, 83, of Waukon died Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Memorial services were held Saturday, December 5 at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon, with Pastor Samantha Houser officiating. Burial of the ashes will be at a later date in Clarksville. Martin Funeral Home of Waukon assisted the family with arrangements.

Lyle Carl Edward Wedeking was born August 21, 1926 in rural Clarksville, the son of Emil Carl and Louise Hattie (Wilken) Wedeking. He was baptized and confirmed at the Pleasant Valley United Church of Christ in rural Clarksville and attended the Clarksville Schools. Lyle farmed with his parents east of Clarksville following his schooling.

October 8, 1946 he married Dorothy Mae Hurd at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They farmed in Butler and Chickasaw Counties until 1964 when he moved to Waukon, where he owned and operated the Surge Dairy Equipment dealership for many years. After retiring from the Surge business, he was a salesman for Pladsen Motors, worked at Cunningham Hardware, and drove truck for RC Tires, all in Waukon.

Lyle was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon. He enjoyed fishing with his brother, children, and grandchildren and pheasant hunting in the Clarksville and Nashua areas. He and Dorothy were loyal followers of the Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes. Lyle enjoyed bowling and sponsored a team in the local leagues for many years. His favorite times were those he spent with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of Waukon; a daughter, Karen (Jim) Norton of Decorah and their children, Terry (Tiffany) and Travis (Heather) Norton and Tanya (Kevin) Donlan; a son, Stan (Judy) Wedeking of Minnesota City, MN and their children, Chuck, Brenda (Steve), and Steve (Kariann) Wedeking; five great-grandchildren, Bailey, Brandon, Taylor, Garrett, and Robert; and a brother, Gene (Delores) Wedeking of Nashua. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Lyle’s grandchildren served as honorary pallbearers.
