OF PIONEER FAMILY.
Vernie Shattuck, daughter of Emma E. Clark Shattuck and ?uhman Shattuck, was born near Waukon Jan. 1, 1881, and had spent her entire life in this community. Following her graduation in 1901 she worked as a clerk in Josephson’s store until her marriage Dec. 30, 1908 to Louis Sherman.

Mr. Sherman remains, as do their four children: Rev. Willard Sherman of Pittsville, Wis.; Ralph and Paul Sherman and Florence, now Mrs. Mulroy McDermott, all of Waukon. There are eight grandchildren. A sister, Mrs. Nellie Potter of Burlington, is the only remaining member of Mrs. Sherman’s immediate family. Two brothers and one sister have passed on.

The Shermans lived near Waukon during the years Mr. Sherman was actively engaged in farming. Nine years ago they moved into Waukon, making their home in the northeast part of town. Mrs. Sherman had not been in good health the past year, but was active until her final illness this week.
