MRS. OPFER’S DEATH SUDDEN.
Friends were shocked to learn of the sudden death Saturday of Mrs. John Opfer, who died at her home of a heart attack while she was assisting in preparing dinner. Mrs. Opfer had always lived in this community, and the Opfers celebrated their golden wedding anniversary last summer.The funeral was held Monday afternoon, Nov. 23, from Zion Reformed church, with Martin’s service in charge. The Rev. Mr. E. L. Hennig officiated.
Burial was in Oakland cemetery. Six nephews served as pallbearers, including Edward, Martin, Leonard, Willis and Herbert Opfer, and Nathan Hager.

Emma Elizabeth Hager, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Hager, was born Nov. 12, 1877, in Ludlow township, and spent her entire live in this vicinity. She and John Opfer were married June 10, 1903 at the Hager home. There are two daughters, Mrs. Althea Harrison, and Mrs. Howard Martin, both of Waukon, and two sons, Oliver, deceased, and Lloyd, of Independence. There are two grandchildren, Irene and Janet Harrison and a sister, Mrs. Ed Opfer of Bryon, Minn.Hand dated Nov. 21, 1953.
