Marvin John Kleve 1935-2000

A Funeral Mass for Marvin Kleve was held Saturday, February 26, 2000 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Bridget Catholic Church at Postville, Iowa. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the St. Aloysius Cemetery at Calmar, Iowa.

Marvin John Kleve, the son of Edward and Mathilda (Wenthold) Kleve, was born January 1, 1935 in rural Calmar, Iowa. He passed away Wednesday, February 23, 2000. He had reached the age of 65 years, one month, and 22 days.

He was baptized on January 2, 1935, received his first communion on May 17, 1943, and was confirmed at the age of 12 on April 27, 1947 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar, Iowa. Marvin attended St. Aloysius School, graduated from 8th grade and received his GED from NICC in Calmar, where he also graduated from the NICC "Carpenter Program". On September 27, 1954, he was married to Alvera Tillman at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Waucoma, Iowa. They farmed in the Lawler, Cresco, Ossian and Castalia areas. They moved to Postville in 1984. Marvin did construction work and later established his own business called "Kleve Construction".

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Paul Kleve, and a brother-in-law, Edgar Wurzer.

Surviving are his wife, Alvera, eight children: Jerald (Mary) Kleve of Postville, IA, Robert (Karen) Kleve, Castalia, IA, Dennis (Karen) Kleve, Calmar, IA, Cynthia (Layne) Uhlenhake, Ossian, IA, Barbara (Terry) Looby, Calmar, IA, Bruce (Sharon) Kleve, Castalia, IA, Duane (Cheryl) Kleve, Holmen, WI, and Scott Kleve, Postville, IA, and his special friend Karla Dixon, Lakewood, OH.

Also surviving are 21 grandchildren: Megan Kleve; Lori, Melissa, Jolene, Corey, Becky, Craig & Wendy Kleve; Beth, Brandon & Nathan Kleve; Stacey, Kelli & Blake Uhlenhake; Krystal & Collin Looby; Danielle, Derek, Katlin, Kimberly & Philip Kleve; a sister, Betty Wurzer of Lawler, IA; two brothers, Herbert (Judy) Kleve and Linus (Sharon) Kleve, both of Calmar, IA; and a sister-in-law, Loretta Kleve of Waucoma, Ia.

Marvin was a member of St. Bridget Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, serving as Deputy Grand Knight. He enjoyed his family, following his grandchildren's sports activities and music concerts; his love of polka dancing, playing cards and working side by side with his children and grandchildren doing roofing and carpentry work.

Casketbearers were the grandson, Corey, Brandon and Nathan Kleve, Collin Looby, and godsons, Darin Kleve and Shawn Kleve.
