Lora E. Brickman, 77, of Harpers Ferry, died Friday, January 3, 2003, at her home following a brief illness. Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 7 at Old East Paint Creek Lutheran Church in rural Waterville, with Pastor Ken Kimball officiating. Burial was in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, Cedar Falls. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon assisted with arrangements. Lora Ethel Fox was born on December 20, 1925, in Westgate, Iowa, the daughter of Samuel T. and Lottie E. (Whitney) Fox. She attended rural Westgate Schools and West Central at Maynard High School. On February 6, 1944, she married Elmer R. Brickman at St. John's Lutheran Church in Fairbank. They lived in Waterloo, Waverly, and Janesville before moving to Harpers Ferry in 1983. Lora worked at City Laundry in Oelwein and Varsity Cleaners in Waterloo for 14 years. She was also the director of housekeeping at Cedar Falls Lutheran Home for over 12 years. Lora was a member of Old East Paint Creek Lutheran Church and its Pricilla Circle. She was also a member of Golden Agers, the Harpers Ferry Boosters, and served as a volunteer at the Harpers Ferry mealsite for many years. She enjoyed caring for grandchildren, embroidery work, raising flowers, playing cards, and traveling. Survivors include her husband Elmer of Harpers Ferry; a daughter, Judith (Harold) Miller of Harpers Ferry; two sons, Thomas (Charlotte) Brickman of Janesville and Gary (Jean) Brickman of Harpers Ferry; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Lee Fox of Overland Park, Kansas. She is preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Ina Rueckert; and seven brothers, Edwin, Neil, Don, Melvin, and Veryl Fox, as well as two infants. Casketbearers were Timothy and David Brickman, Korey Miller, Stanton and Samuel Fox, and Lyle Gordon.
